When I used hyperterminal I could get to "User EXEC" mode, when I try to connect now I get a "Username :" prompt and cannot get back to "User Exec" mode.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Well.. you didnt leave a model number but you have two options. ONe is to use SNMP *if* you have the RW option in place to download the config, tweak it and upload it. The other is to use the correct password recovery technique. Apparently someone turned on authenticaition which means it's looking for a special server to check the user ID and password. Whoops!!!

Sorry, it's a 3640, which has been removed from a network to do a memory upgrade. I thought I would check if the upgrade was successful before returning it to the network. It is configured to use a radius server for dialin authentication.
