We just purchased Business Objects XI r3.1 (edge), crystal reports and xcelsius. Now we have all this software and no clue how to get started. Can anyone out there explain to me the main function of each of these software packages, and how they relate to one another? General overview, i guess, is what i am looking for. thanks for any info that you can provide...

The people you purchased from would be the best source.

BO XI is the portal, scheduler and the adhoc tool. However it can be used for production reports.

Crystal is for pixel perfect reporting.

Xcelsius is for dashboarding.

Who we purchased from have been less-than-helpful thus far - we are unable to get any sort of striahgt answer out of them. So i do appreciate your response, skrandel.

Can you tell me how i can get to Designer? (BO installed on unix server)

Designer is a Windows app and is installed as part of the Client Tools package. It may have changed with Edge, but I believe you'll find the Client Tools installer in the Collaterals folder on your install disk.
