I am embarking on creating my first TRUE database (you know the kind with tables I make and all . . . ). Well, one of my concerns with the way Access handles data in forms linked to tables.

I want to make sure that no changes are saved to a table until a save or print button is clicked. What is the best way to accomplish this though? I am more than a little stymied at the moment as this is my first true foray into this and without any formal training at all.

I am not against using VBA at all though it is still a bit foreign. Thanks in advance for any help. Brambojr

Hi Brambojr

If I remember correctly, in order to do this you need to create unbound forms - which is easy if you have generic code to do this - and understand what is going on.

I don't recommend this for a first run.

However, the escape button my cover all your needs anyway - it undoes changes in the current field or current record. If both have been changed, press ESC twice to undo changes, first in the current field and then in the current record.

This means that data entry isn't committed to db, until you move onto another record and the escape button can undo any changes.

Is that enough?

You could try making yours fields 'required' in the table. Then all the required fields that appear on the form must be filled before a record is saved. ;-)

- Sorry about the delay in responding. Right now I am thinking that update queries and unbound controls is the answer to what I need. Any thoughts??
This ought to do the trick. I am not making anything terribly huge and the lower tech it is the better sometimes. That way others can figure out what is going on. Brambojr
