I produce a newspaper in Pagemaker that has a Photoshop generated background. My problem is even though I created the background as a CMYK art with a GCR color scheme with NO BLACK, I'm still getting a black screen on my separations in Pagemaker. How can I get rid of it?

I am not sure what you mean by CGR color scheme. I am pretty certain that is you place a CMYK TIFF in PM, that Adobe will print a Black separation by default. What effect are you trying for? Most newspapers do not use background images. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

GCR is a custom color management option in Photoshop. This newspaper is printed in 4 color and to maximize the "eye candy" we print a background color behind photos and text. The color should be PMS 375, which is a bright, near lime green but comes out as dark khaki green because of the added black screen.

So the question here is how do I change the default settings to match the incoming embedded color profiles?

annette,

Here is a link that you may find helpful.

If you have a pantone color that you want to bring in as part of a photoshop image, then CMYK is definately not the method you should use. The linkis about using spot colors and multichannel graphics from PS in PM. Hope this helps.

PM treats colors differently than PS, and it is almost impossible to get accurate color management between the 2 apps because they use different management techniques... PM uses Kodak CMS,a nd PS uses Adobe Color management. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Can you try posting the URL of that link again? I keep getting an error message about the page being unable to be found.

It did it AGAIN! It is NOT me, I swear! :p

Copy the part that begins after "_new"> and paste that into your Address... When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

OK, got it and it's printed and stored away in my Tips folder. Thanks.
