Hi there,

I've just got a new job as a network administrator and i am trying to automate some of my daily tasks as they can get a bit tedious.

I am trying to setup performance monitor to check on the diskspace of a server and alert me when it goes below a certain level and to send me an alert via email. I have setup the alert to create an entry into the event log successfully.

How can i get performance monitor to send me an alert via email? Is there a command line utility to send me an email with the alert details in?

Anyone set this up previously?

Thanks for the help in advance.

John

This is something that I have also wondered about, as I have had some major problems in the past with having very little space on the server C: drive!

John, how did you create the alert to enter a warning into the event log when the space falls below a certain level?

I am unsure about the notification via email however, perhaps there is a third party software application available which can do the job for you.

Good luck with the new job!

Create a new alert in the performance monitor and enter the following details:

Insert comment as the heading.
Add the following counter \\yourmachine\logicaldisk(c:)\free megabytes

Alert when UNDER limit INSERT LIMIT OF FREE SPACE

Choose sample data every 60 secs (or longer)

Then in action put a tick in the box Log and entry in the event log

Anyone help with my email problem?

Thanks

Go to the Small Business server administrator.
Under the Health Monitor - All monitored computers - Computername - Actions - Email right - click on e-mail - properties

Configure the e-mail address and SMTP service and the server will send you the warning reports. If you have e-mail on your telephone it will alsosend it to your cell

I did forget to note that you have to right click on health monitor sample monitors (or your custom group). Go to properites - actions tab. Create a new action to e-mail both critical and warning states.

Hi there,

I don't have small business server administrator, sorry

Thanks

OK.

go to this website and download the ansmtp installer (link on page)
go to the directory where you installed the ansmtp
(default is C:\Program Files\AdminSystem.NET\ANSMTP)
go to samples\vbs scripts
right click and edit the sendmail.vbs.
right at the bottom of the script is th only information you need to edit. the line is 'send. the first quotations is the sender, second quotes is the recipiant, third is the subject, fouth is body, last is the SMTP provider.
change the values as needed and test by double clicking.
when you have changed the info don't forget to remove the ' in front of the send command.

now go back to your alert for disk space and under the actions protion set it to run this vbs file and you should be set to go. for other alerts just copy and rename the vbs to the alert you want to track and change the body portion of the message in the vbs file to suit your alert.
