Hi
I've just installed Oracle 816 on Windows 2000 and I'm getting "ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name" whenever I try and run Server Manager from DOS (svrmgrl). The database is up and running fine and I can tnsping it OK and connect via SQL*Plus no problem.

I've set the SID env var to the correct instance - I've also tried running "SET INSTANCE" from svrmgr but just get the same ORA-12154 error msg

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks very much

Hi,

If you have installed the Ora816 and the OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) also, please make sure that your tnsnames.ora in your OEM_Home/network/admin directory is the same exact tnsnames.ora in your ORADB_Home/network/admin. Also copy your sqlnet from oracle home to oem home.

Hope this changes solve your problem, let us know if you don't have the OEM install but still having this problem. How many Oracle Home do you have in the machine?

Thanks wchuacs

I re-did the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora from a backup of previous install and seems to work ok now!

So not too sure exactly what was causing the prob - but thankfully its all OK now!

Thanks again
