Hi. This is a question for somebody that is knows a bit about networking Win machines. I have 2 computers in a local network at home. One is an oracle host (host1.domain.com) and the other (host2.domain.com) is trying to connect to its SQL plus service. I have been
playing with registering the DNS but when I run ipconfig,
host1 can't see host2 but host2 can see host1. I am thinking
it might be b/c I don't have a modem in host1 but should that matter over a lan (ok, i now realize that this is
more of a networking question than a win question).

suggestions appreciated.

I, too have had this problem. In a Win98 environment, you need to have both machines sharing something - a disk, a folder, a printer before that "sharing" machine could be seen over your net. I think Win2K is the same. Also Win2K gets a bit funkier with regard to access permissions, etc. which I don't know enough about to suggest a course of action.

Are they both logging onto a domain, or is one logging on locally? Glen A. Johnson
