Getting my head around all this IPT stuff - Few questions 1

Hi All,

We're in the initial research stages of replacing our Avaya Index with a Voip solution. Currently, we have:

HQ - 280 Users - Avaya Index
Branch 1 - 75 Users - IP Office
Branch 2 - 40 Users - Avaya Index
Branch 3 - 30 Users - IP Office
Branch 4 - 10 Users - IP Office
Branch 5 - 4 Users - IP Office

These are approximates, but we currently have around 450 users which doesn't give much scope for expansion. I was hoping to take advantage of the IPO systems we already have but they have a limit of 500 users with SCN. SCN would have been neccesary for the directory sharing capabilities and centralised management. So alternatively, we're now looking at CM.
We need call recording functionality too, which we would have got with IPO's VM Pro. Is something similar available for a reasonable price for CM?
Can we link IPO to CM easily to save us upgrading the branches?
If not, then is the linking of the CM solutions easy? Could be achieve centralised management from the HQ?

what I'm initially thinking is

HQ - G450/S8500
Branch 1 - G450\S8300
Branch 2 - G350\S8300
Branch 3 - G350\S8300
Branch 4 - G250\S8300
Branch 5 - G250\S8300

Would any more equipment (apart from phones and switches) be needed for infrastructure (excluding Applications)? Also, regarding switches, can any PoE switch be used. Any model from any vendor?

You didn't didn't say if you have IP connectivity from the Main site to the branches, if you do, then you probably need to go with an S8500 at the main site, and then S8300LSP's at the branchs. The reason is, the S8300 has a maximum capacity of 450 stations, and you are too close to that. The S8500 can handle up to 2400 stations.

If you go with a flat architechture, then yes, administation is easy, because your system acts like one large switch, administered from the Main site. The S8300LSPs at the branches only go "active" if you lose WAN IP connectivty, and then they run the trunks and stations at that site. You would probably lose voicemail in that situation, since you will likely have 1 centralized voicemail system

You ask way too many questions to answer them all. You could connect your older IP offices to a new CM system at the main site via H323 IP trunks, however, that would only be for 4 digit dialing between sites, it would NOT help with centralized administration, etc. again, you MUST have IP connectivty to even get the H323 IP trunks working.

I would suggest an Intuity Audix LX R2.0 for your main site, that would be fairly reliable at a modest cost, you can get a 500 mailbox x 12 port system to handle your vociemail, the Intuity can also receieve FAXs, however a separate box such as the Multitech FaxFinder, is far easier and more reliable (works with almost ALL fax machines, whereas the Intuity IALX doesn't work that well with the newer High Speed machines) to setup, and again, it can email you either a PDF or a TIFF of the FAX to your email system.

You could also get a Modular Messaging system, with exchange integration, or standalone (separate AVAYA Message store). Thats more costly, but you would get your voicemails as WAV files in your email.

Oh alsmost forgot to mention, the IALX has a feature built in called "Audix One Step recording", which is setup as a button on your phone "audix-rec", when you press it, the Audix starts recording the call, and at the end of the call, it send you the audix as a message. You can use message manager to get the, or setup a POP3 account to POP i to your emal system. This audix recording is limited to the total message size, and mailbox size of the user who initiated the call, usually max msg length is set to 20 minutes (1200 seconds), you can make it longer, if you need to on a per subscriber basis (based on Class Of Service)

If you need a system that indexs the messages, and can record without user intervention, then we are on a whole different price level, plan on spending between $25K to $50K for this, as you will need an AES server, and some type of call recording system that works with it. We have installed many of these, and they are not cheap to setup... this would be used for a compliance situations typically.

BTW, the G250 is not the best choice for a site, because its very inflexable. There are 4 models, and you pick the one you want, and that's it, you can't add anything to it (well, other than adding another G250). It also only has 8 POE ports, so its best for an office of less than 7 people (1 port is used to uplink it to your LAN/WAN). There is a digital model (G250-DCP) that does have 12 digital ports on it.

You also didn't say what kind of phones you will be using, now the bad news: you probably wpn't be able to use the phones from your IP Office system, unless you bought the "enterprise" model phones, when you bought it, eg the 2410/2420, versus the 5410/5420, or 4610/4620/4621 IP phones versus 5600 IP phone series. The IP office models only work on the IP office, not on enterprise systems (CM)

Apologies, we do have 10mbps MPLS between branches.

The call recording needs to be done without user intervention, yes, and we were expecting a hefty price. I came across the AES Server yesterday, and I understand you 'plug in' a recording solution to it, like a module to the AES?

We S8xxx were there for LSP purposes, to make sure calls can still go over the PSTN should the WAN die.

You've been very helpful and basically confirmed alot of my thoughts. Cheers for that
 
Where can we download message manager?
I have looked all over Support.Avaya and must be blind.
