Hi I just got a brand new mac OSX for christmas and am very new to this DVD thing to I tried to open a movie I downloaded it was a .mpg and when I try to open it it says software componets needed by movie could not be found. What is it talking about? Do I need to download a different player? I have quick time. I also have iDVD on the bottom of the screen. So my question is how can I play these movie on my computer? Please Help Thanks Tipsea

There are many codecs out in the PC world which are not supported my quicktime 6. You are probably out of luck on that particular one. Make sure you've got the latest quicktime (that new machine probably does.)

It's possible the file you downloaded was corrupt and wouldn't play regardless. MPG codecs are usually fine with what you can (and do) have on that machine. It's "avi" files that are trickier.

Note that dvd players work for dvd format. These are different technologies we are adressing and while your DVD drive may accomodate different formats, the DVD player accomodates DVD.

In case you are looking to view movies -
jump out to the internet and grab the DivX codec here:

there shold be install instructions in the download.

Happy motoring.

Thank You all for your help and for the DIVX I'm not sure how everything works yet but in time I will get it! I found that I was downloading movies that were to small 67kb so that was my problem.Thank you again. Its nice to know that there is a place to come if I have problem or things I don't understand. Thanks again, Tipsea [sunshine]
