Is there a way to remotely get into an IP phone (1120, 1140, 1150) to check configuration and/or change it? Similar to Cisco's ability to open a browser and enter the IP address of the phone to see the status and all internal settings of the phone.

Thanks

I would like to know if this is possible as well. From what I can find it looks like Nortel missed the boat.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Configure a TFTP provisioning server and have your phones chek for updates regularly and on reboot.

They are very easy to control.

Honestly - I have seen nothing that is "easy" the way they go about IP phones compared to others.

Yea TheCardMan ... I know exactly what you are talking about. Nortel could take a lesson from Cisco as far as hitting your phone with a web browser and making changes.
TFTP server is not the way to go when you only want to change a few phones. TFTP will effect all phones if you lose power or if your system goes down :(

Tman45 - TFTP config files can be used on a system, zone, phone-type, or even MAC level. If you want to change the configuration for one phone, create a MAC cfg file and then remotely reboot that phone. If you want to change the configuration for just one type of phones (for example 2007), then create a phone-type config file.

In your web-browser situation, you would have to hit every phone if you wanted to change all of one type. In the TFTP situation, you just change one file.

Gwebster - Thanks for setting me straight. Didn't know you could go that granular on the TFTP with Nortel as I have only placed the firmware update on the sigservers to get all the phones to update once they are rebooted. I was actually going to play around with TFTP more to be more of a zero-touch config shop.

Also, the majority of my TFTP experience is with Cisco IP phones and doing SIP flashes and whatnot.

Cool that you can go down to MAC level, BUT NOT COOL that Nortel does NOT have a WEB page to modify phone settings such as what CardMan is asking about which you CAN do with Cisco.

Or do you know of a way to punch in the phone IP in a web browser to look at the phone settings?

What about telephony manager? I can adjust/change the settings on my phone one at a time, in groups or for the whole lot of them.
It is a web-based browser and I can access it from anywhere.

I am using ssh to the phone to check on it's config

Hello, Oxoxo did you get successfully ssh access to IP Phones? I tryed it but I don't know what is the user and password that I need. Could you tell me that? Thanks

There is no need to get into individual phones. That is why there are so many reports of hacking a network equipped with Cisco phones.

If you have the network properly set up i.e. DHCP strings and TFTP server. Hell you can set almost all that you need with just DHCP and the proper firmware.

ssh needs to be enabled per phone:
- by configuration (with finger) to enable ssh and set user/pass
- by tftp provisioning: no finger

Most things are available thru the sig server
BUT
the log isn't
and the phones do have stack crashes which are not visible using the sig ser remote diagnostics ...

GOOD NEWS!!! In release 7 coming out you will be able to provision phones through Element Manager!!! WHOO-HOO!!!!
Just thought TheCardMan and others would like to know since I just found out!

?? "Release 7"?? You can provision IP Phones through the CS 1000 Element Manager already..

I hear in release 8 all you have to do is open the box and the phone will walk to it's location all on it's own. YEA! no more placing phones.

That is if 6 ever gets released.
