Have had made endless attempts to get forms to communicate with the PO. I had in past successfully installed both developer anf PO 7.3 without having to configure any listner or tnsnames or sqlnet. I get tns: protocol adapter error as well as CONNECT FAILED BECASUE TARGET HOST OR OBJECT DOES NOT EXIST(tns - 12545) on my home PC.

Can anyone help???

This is because of uncompatibilty between versions of net8(sql*net) on your developer and your database for "bequeath" protocol.
I had the same problem before. There is no way.
You should setup a listener for your PO8 and connect to it.

thanks for the response.

Is the other way around this to have PO7.3 and dev forms 5.0 using the Y2k 3.3.1.2.4 installer?

Is it not the case that sqlnet 2.3.4 or higher needs to be installed - have you tried this?

If I do go with your suggestion( I am a bit hesitant as i have fiddled around with the listner without any joy), can you please outline (email)the step-by-step procedure involving configuration of listner in order to get PO8.0.4 working with my forms 5. It would be greatly appreciated.

I also recently noticed that(even after clean-up operation), that when trying to install ODBC products from the forms dev 5.0 cd; I get the ORA-3121(no interface driver connected) when I ok this I get a further odbo.vrf(395) ....

At the end of the day I would want to use PO8 with forms.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there could be another way. Any client networking product that you install, should be under dev directory and compatible with developer. So you will have the same problem. I don't suggest you to do that because you may spend a lot of time with no result. I had the bad experience in the past.

For the step to step procedure I don't have those tools right now. But as far as I remember if you installed PO8 and its networking products, you should have "network assistant" or "net8 configuration assistant" and you can use any of them (preferably the second) for configuring a listener.

About the ODBC drivers, as far as I remember the reason is in the version of the developer you use. Once we had the same problem and we upgraded to Developer 6 for the same reason.

Thanks for the response.

Using PO 8.0.4's sqlplus session connected as scott tiger works ok(connects) but when you start the listner the tns error as well as TNS-00515 appears??

Just yesterday I have managed to find a workaround for the forms connection with the dbase problem. It is : -

Install sqlplus 3.3 instead of 8, install 3.3 without sqlnet and install sqlnet from 8.0.4. Then connect forms using scott tiger - IT works!!!!! Whether I can have sqlplus8 and 3.3 remains to be seen. Perhaps yes you are right in saying that there is an incompatibility issue with this dev version and the 8.0.4.

Thanks for your response and I am sure my workaround and your adive will benefit a lot others.
