When trying to get into the Telephony services section on my BCM400 I am getting this error.
"Telephony programming is not available. A connection to the MSC has not been established. Please try again later."

Can anyone tell me what is causing this. I have never seen this in the almost two years of administering this BCM.
Thanks
Greg

Thanks for the idea, I tried that and I got a message that it couldn't gently reset so it forced the reset but I still get the same error. Anymore ideas?
Thanks
Greg

Read thread1361-1203700

This thread list another alternative that you can try -- it doesn't require a reboot.

whats your BCMs version? There's a patch available for that problem.

We are running 3.6. This is the first time I have had this happen in the year and a half of opperation. Do you have the patch number?
Thanks

When I stop and start the voicemanagementsubsystem service what is the effect on my incoming calls to my call center? Is there any interruption to the calls or my ques??
Thanks

You need to install the NRU patch.
When this happens go to Diagnostics>Service Manager.
Locate VoiceManagementSubSystem.
Stop and start the service.
You should now be able to access Telephony Services.

Check the capacitors this can be a first sign of a bad BFT.
Does a hard reboot (pull the plug) fix the problem?

Well when I arrived at the office today to try the above things I found out our IT dept. had to fully shutdown our server room for some UPS maintenance and since the BCM got restarted the problem for now has been corrected so I didn't get to try restarting the service. Thanks everyone for your ideas!

Greg

In the future your IT department needs to know that the BCM is also a server and needs to be properly shut down by a qualified person. IT normally shows no respect to the telephohny gear. Ask them if you can reboot a server by pulling the plug and see what their answer is.

I would check the capacitors to see if they are the green one's or the blue one's. You only have till 12/31/06 to get these replaced for free by Nortel if you have the Green capacitors. The symptons sound like the BAD BFT

The patch is called: BCM_360.229 - BCM 3.6 NRU Update
It is included within the Cumulative Patch #3 that i would recommend to install.

Regards, Stefan

Will Nortel replace the board if I'm not the original owner of the BCM? I bought the system from a local reseller as used equipment.
Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue. Just have your distributor order the replacement.

Post the model number here and I'll tell you if it's on the recall list. ie:NT7B10????
