getting CPU utilization for a single program

I am trying to get the cpu usage from a single program into my script but KI cant figure out how to get it. I have been greping it from the "TOP" utility but TOP uses too much resources and I would like to get the info directly from the OS instead.

Does anyone know how to do this????

Try SAR command.

You could try /usr/ucb/ps aux | grep <program>
