hi,
My laptop (Lenovo R61i) was recently infected with a Trojan horse and it has prevented me from booting in AHCI mode, only compatibility mode works. I have done a clean install in an attempt to remove the trojan and any other possible threats but that has not worked, AHCI still displays a boot error (0x0000007b.) Can anyone help me?

There are a ton of reasons why you may get the dreaded 7b blue screen.

I would try the hard drive manufacturer's utility. Most of them can be found on the Ultimate Boot CD. Download it, burn it and boot to it. Run the DIAG test for your hard drive brand.

You want to rule out hardware first.

What OS did you reinstall? AHCI support is not native to XP and you need to search Lenovo's site for the driver (good luck). Vista provides AHCI support.

Thanks works now ^^. all it needed was the driver after all.
