Getting BGP to route with congestion

Hi I have decided that BGP is the way to go to route my 2 T1's. What I want though is for the exterior protocol (eBGP) to redistribute with maybe EIGRP so that it can get load metrics on the t1's. Basically as I understand it if I only use BGP than it will only route the shortest distance since BGP cant understand loads or a bigger connection. But if one t1 is congested I would like traffic to go out the other t1 if it isnt being used. Can I make this happen or is this not a possibility?

Yes I have read the same article, especially the parts about EIGRP redistribution into BGP. However I 'm not really sure how and where to combine this information. Do I BGP the serial interfaces and EIGRP the Ethernet Interfaces? Also my serial interfaces and my ethernet interfaces have public internet IPs. If I apply EIGRP to my public IPs will I run into problems?

Are the 2 T's to another location or are they internet connections? Have you checked with your provider to see if they are willing to run bgp? Are the 2 t's with the same provider?

Take a look at optimized edge routing (OER), I'm sure it will provide you with what you need.

Hello
Brianinms has asked a good question.First find out if the ISP will run BGP with you ,and also do you have a public AS or will the ISP make you use a private autonomous system.
How is your network setup, will you be using HSRP?In any case with two Internet connection it will be possible. You may have to policy base routing, can say much for now it all depends on all the above questions.
Regards

Yes they are internet connections, Yes the ISP will run BGP to me. They will use a private AS and we wont be using HSRP. We will be Using a 7206 router with a multi t1 card and 2 FastEthernet cards.

The OER or PfR may be a great option for us as we dont need to speak BGP or involve the ISP engineers in anyway. Unfortunatly I have no experience setting up PfR, However from the faqs it looks like my router can support this.

Hello
I thought you would have 2 routers for redundancy ,it would have been much easier. In any case you will have to go with OER.I personally don't have any experience with it,I hope someone else in this forum does.
Regards

Are the 2 T1's to the same provider? If they are I would just bond them together and forget about bgp all together.

After looking back through some old threads here, I saw your other post describing two T1's; one being ppp and one being frame-relay, but both with the same provider. Is this the same scenario?? If so you won't gain anything by running BGP in this configuration since you aren't truly "multihoming". I would just run an IGP such as EIGRP or OSPF with OER or just plain static's with OER. If you were truly multihoming to different providers then I would say BGP is an absolute requirement. My .02...

OER requires that my 7206 have 256 MB of DRAM and 48 MB of flash along with IOS 12.4(15)T. I currently only have an NPE-200 with 128MB of ram. Can the NPE-200 support OER or would I have to upgrade the NPE to 225 w/ 256MB?
