Getting Avaya phone to work on older IP Office version

We are running an IP Office 406 chassis on a little older software 3.2(17). Most all of our desk phones are the Avaya 5410 models. When you plug one in at a desk, the LCD will flash with 5410, Rel:2.0, Please wait......

After a few seconds, the correct name/extension comes up and all is well. I recently purchased a few used 5410 phones, and one of those apparently had been used on a newer software version (I assume). When plugging that in, the LCD reads Rel:5.0, and it never comes up with extension. Just sits on Please Wait.......

In fact, when I plugged that phone in, it momentarily took down the Avaya expansion module it was plugged in to. If my assumption is correct that the phone is running newer software, is there a way to flash it back to Rel:2.0 that other phones work fine on? Or somehow force my PBX to work with it?

Downgrading is only possible if you have the right firmware for the sets AND the IPO must support the procedure.
I don't know ( never done it as I remember ) if 3.2 supports up/downgrading these sets.

Yes it does... just need the files, the file server and the appropriate programming and you are good to go. Had an issue once were phones would only downgrade from the system ports and not expansion modules...so watch out for that one :)

Ughh. Not sure we are capable of doing such. May just ask if I can return to reseller for a replacement running v2.0. Thanks guys.

Sending the phone back is the best way to go, just ask them to sell a compatible phone then it is up to them to load the right firmware.

Or just run a tftp server with the right files.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

not that easy tlpeter, 5410's are a royal b!tch as they only upgrade if you tell the system to allow it (NoUser entry) and have it turned on (batch file)

Another Avaya problem that they solved by making it everybodies problem. They had the 5410's grab the firmware and upgrade after every reboot and so they just solved that by making it really hard to actually upgrade them rather than fixing it properly.
Do I seem grumpy today? Maybe I need a coffee.

is it a v1 or v2 chassis?

whats the memory count?
