I am posting this here because in my search for the answer it appeared that this MIGHT be solvable through macros so perhaps someone at this forum has a clue...

I am using the mail merge function to merge a large amount of data from an Excel 2003 spreadsheet into a Word 2003 document.

It appears as though any Excel field which exceeds 255 characters gets cut off at exactly the 255 character limit mark in the merging process.

How can I work around this problem?

In my search I found the following "fixes" but did not experience any success:
(Working around the issue with macros in Word 97)
(making 500+ dummy cells is really ridiculous)
