I have Access 97 and am networked to one other computer in my office area. On the other computer is the database files I work with. We set a password on the database on the computer where the database files are kept. Whenever we go to access the database files on the computer where they are kept, we are not prompted for any password.

However, on the other computer we are prompted with a Login Dialog box whenever we try to access the database files stored on the other computer.

How can we get rid of the Login Dialog box form? This form shows up even when we just start Access without opening a specific database file.

Thanks.

Sounds like you set up some User Security on one PC but not on the other. Here are three ways to eliminate the login dialog if it is appearing due to User Security.

1) Add the login and password startup options to the shortcut that opens the database.

/user login /pwd password

2) Open Access, select Tools | Security and clear the password for all logins.

3) The login information is stored in the Workgroup file. The default is system.mdw. You can replace the file on the PC asking for a login with an unaltered file such as the original system.mdw installed with Access or a copy of the file from the other PC. Of course, you lose any updates made to the workgroup file and may not be able to open any database created with a login other than admin. Terry L. Broadbent
