Hi!

I would like to read about the EDI tool(?) GENTRAN (Mainframe version & NT). Where can I get the information about "gentran" and any site to download the reading material?

Pras.

Can anyone share some of their working knowledge as to how this tool works?

Like how to map data elements from a flat file to the transactions?

Gentran NT has a GUI interface which allows you to define the elements on either side of the map and then link the 2 elemnts together. It also allows you to code in rules and use lookuptables within a map. The standards are installed and a wizard creates a map with the possible element for that transaction which can then be activated. It allows for among others, edi to positional, positional to edi,ODBC mapping direct to the database, xml. etc...

David,

I have mapped 850 and compiled. While processing the data file I am getting the error "Unrecognized data encountered" error number 1621. How do I know where the problem is? Where can I get more information about this error?

Thanks.

This is probably inbound data that you processed. If it is you will want to check that the EDI data is formated correctly. If it is then you will want to open the file in a hex editor and see if there are any unprintable hex characters in the data. Such as a 0x0d as a segment terminator. If you see a hex character you can use a delivery rule to convert it. in the previous example you would convert a 0x0d to a 0x7e (~).

Hello,
I am working on Gentran and was literally stuck up with
my work. So I did a search on the net to get this site, so
mailing you.

Okay. So my problem is I wanna write a script in the
extended rule to convert the data that comes to upper case. so I
am in search of a function like ntoa, atoi etc. Do anyone of you
have hany such idea? If so please advice.

Thanks.

Jayesh.
