Generic USB Hub not recognised

When I plug a USB Generic Hub into a USB port, the system only recognises 'USB Device' and the device installation says that an error has occurred and that there is no driver.

This USB hub is recognised for what it is on other Windows 2000 machines.

The USB ports work properly with specific devices but not for the hub. Trouble is I only have 2 USB ports on this Acer TravelMate 220 laptop and I have 3 USB devices.

Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sure this genaric hub has a company name and model number... care to share?

You need a powered hub.
Most laptops will not accept an unpowered hub.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I will try a powered hub as you suggest. I wasn't aware of this limitation of unpowered hubs on laptops.
