We have a server that crashed and upon restart, we have a light on the motherboard and front of the PC, the hub's corresponding light comes on, and we hear the drives and tape drive start up, but nothing comes up on the screen (which also starts up). It doesn't even beep when we take out the memory and then start it up. Where would a problem like this lie? Thanks, and let me know if there is a more suitable location for this post...

Actually I had something like this happen to me recently on a Proliant 1600. A technician put the server on its side and it started up again. It seems that the motherboard had to be re-seated. Give it a try, hope it helps

Have you tested the server display card?

If the OS isn't starting up then it could be the mainboard shorting. Check the seating and any thing which might be shorting the traces on the board.
Also check SCSI/IDE cables to the drives and controllers.

Also are the fans spinning? Both cpu fan and main ps fan. Could be power supply.
What can you hear on POST? Any beeps at all?

Sorry I didn't see that you'd put that there was no POST in the title of the original uhh post :-]

I have seen this happen if either more memory or additional processors have been added. Try reducing the server to a basic configuration, then rebuild until you find the problem.

I would check the processor. If it were a memory or video card problem, you would hear beeps. If the processor's not working, it doesn't normally beep.

We took out and reset the processor, still no luck, we've stripped out everything possible from the machine, seems to be the motherboard itself. I think it's a SOYO (?) motherboard. We have all services running on a separate machine so we are not in bad shape, can't say the same for this server though...

I have the same issue as mdcr, but for me I replace the motherboard still no joy. So i gave up, i put all the old parts together and return the new motherboard in its original box. Then I turn "ON" the switch hopelessly, then voila.. The server comes back from the DEAD:).

Anyway, some interlocks are faulty, bypass them and see if it works.

Its most likly a processor problem. If it is a single processor machine, it is worth replacing the processor. If the proc is faulty nothing will happen, no post, no beeps etc.

Normally, NO POST, NO Video means processor or memory problems. Unseated CPU or RAM, Dead CPU or RAM

I have a Compaq Proliant 3000 server with two PII 450 processors. When I power up, I get fans, IMD, and motherboard LEDs, but nothing else. All of the LEDs are green, except for one labeled " V AUX ", which is red (orange?). That one lights up even before I power up, as soon as I plug in the power supplies. In case it matters, it's the motherboard with the CPUs and all the RAM on board, as opposed to the one with the two CPU daughterboards and the RAM daughterboard. Any help greatly appreciated.

mkainz, it would be a good idea if you started your own thread.
