i get a error saying something about the nView.dll file but now its not giving me my error anymore but still wont use the drivers that came with the card for winxp for some reason it will recognize my driver as GeForce4 MX440 but i cant even play games when i try and start a game it sais no video drivers. i installed the drivers but its acting like they arent there. i need to also know how to take nView off of my computer, i read in another thread that a guy was getting the same thing and he had to completely remove all video drivers and that took it off but i tryed uninstalling the driver but the nView was still in my control panel and it doesnt give any option to take it off can anyone help im running this on Windows XP, P3 650 with 512 ram, i dont know what kind of motherboard i have.

Thamantii,

I'm not familiar w/XP ('cept all the posts I read on how bad it is) but I can tell you how to disable nView (& any other program) in 98SE: click 'start' > 'run' > type: 'msconfig.exe' in the box & click 'OK'. Go to the 'start-up' tab & click on it. Look for 'nwiz' & uncheck the box next to it. Restart.

Go back in there & see if it stayed unchecked. If it did: nView is disabled. If it didn't: delete nView out of 'Control Panel' & do it all again. What driver are you using & do you use 'Detonator Destroyer'( ) between driver installs? You should to remove all previous drivers b4 installing new ones.

You might also want to: 'start' > 'run'> type in "diagdx.exe" > OK. Does it say DX8.1(4.08.01.0881) on the front page? Click on 'display', does it have the MX440 listed & the proper "Approx. Total Memeory" is correct for the card?

Also you can: right click on 'My Computer' > left click 'properties' > left click 'device manager' > check 'view devices by type' & click on 'monitors'. Disable the 'default' monitors & re-boot. Is XP detecting 'new hardware' on reboot? Check & see if the 'default' monitors are still disabled. They should be. Run 'dxdiag.exe' again & all *should* be well, I hope.

Windows can detect the MX440 but install the 'stock' VGA driver on it & you will have these problems because the VGA driver is limited & doesn't have DX support. You have to 'force' the nVidia driver (sometimes) to work & disabling the 'defaults' does that (usually).

I returned the Geforce card and got a ati radeon 8500le and at first it gave me a few problems, when it booted up there was just a black screen i couldnt get to the BIOS or anything but after a few times of taking it out and putting it back in it finally worked and now im running XP ERROR FREE. that is about as astonishing as anything i have ever seen in my entire life! well thank you for your advice although its not needed now, maybe someone else will read it that needs the advice and use it to help themselves ;)
