I installed a GeForce 2 MX400 and the system is recognizing it as a SiS 315 and installs the SiS 315 drivers. I'm comfused.

Why would a GeForce board utilize a SiS 315 processor?
If it is a GeForce board why whould it recognize it as a SiS 315?

I called the dealer and he said to install the drivers on the cd that came with the board (a burned, unmarked cd. I did this and now it says it's a Geforce board but SiSoftware still sees it as a SiS 315.

I went to the nvidia site and installed the latest drivers. It works ok but I'm still wondering if I have a falsified board, which is common here in Brazil.

The Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB card is boxed by a company named Sky Video with a address of I tried going to the web site but it doesn't exist. The lavels on the card say it's a GeForce 2 MX400 64MB and there is a nvidia logo sticker on a small chip about half an inch square next to the capacitors and processor. I haven't looked at the processor chip yet because the fan apears to be glued to it.

With the XP drivers set for SiS 315 the graphics were better but wouldn't run games like Medal of Honor.

System info:
Windows XP Pro w/ all upgrades
Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Plus MB; AMD Athlon XP 1900+ palamino processor; 256MB 2100 DDR RAM; GeForce 2 MX400 64MB vid card.

Did you check if the driver versions changed when running nVidia's driver install software? It may have left the original drivers as they were if the card isn't an nVidia product. Also try uninstalling & removing all drivers so XP recognizes it as SiS again & then run the nVidia software.

Another option, grab software, like wcpuid off the internet & in there one of the pages returns what the video card identifies itself as. It's worth a shot to see if it identifies itself as an SiS chip or not.

I know you just spent money on a new video card, but whichever chip is on the card, I don't think you'll be happy with the performance of either. The geForce2 MX line is old technology not really meant for gaming even when it was released. You can get a geForce2 GTS for real cheap on the internet and be decent, or spend a little more on a geForce4 ti4200.

All of the data below was copied from the information provided by the SiSoftware Sandra software or taken from the driver details window.

It just doesn’t make sense to me why it is showing a SiS 315 processor on a nvidia board? I'm guessing this is a falsified board. Am I correct?

I built this machine as an upgrade, installing a new Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Plus motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 1900+ Palamino processor, 256MB 2100 DDR RAM and a GeForce 2 MX400 64MB Sky Video video board. I installed Windows XP Pro.
The latest Bios version for the motherboard is installed as well as all the Windows XP updates.

First I booted the machine using only what the OS recognized. I received the following information:

Device Information
Device Type : VGA Display Adapter
Device ID : bus 1, device 0, function 0
Windows Device Name : Controlador de vídeo (Compatível com VGA)
OEM Device Name : Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS325 2D/3D Accelerator
OEM Hardware ID : FUN_0, VEN_1039, DEV_0325, REV_00
Product Device Name : Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS325 2D/3D Accelerator
Product Hardware ID : VEN_4748, DEV_2818
Revision / Stepping : A / 1 (0)

The drivers that were installed were:
“ no drivers installed”

Next I installed the nvidia winxp/2K 44.03 drivers and received these results:

Device Information
Device Type : VGA Display Adapter
Device ID : bus 1, device 0, function 0
Windows Device Name : SiS 315
OEM Device Name : Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS325 2D/3D Accelerator

Product Device Name : Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS325 2D/3D Accelerator
Product Hardware ID : VEN_4748, DEV_2818
Revision / Stepping : A / 1 (0)

The drivers that were installed were:
sisgrp.sys
sisgrv.dll
source: SiS
file version: 5.13.01.2000 (released binaries 010625-1804
copyrights: SiS
digital signature: ms win xp publisher

Finally, I installed the drivers from the unmarked CD that came with the card and received these results:

Device Information
Device Type : VGA Display Adapter
Device ID : bus 1, device 0, function 0
Windows Device Name : NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX400
OEM Device Name : Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS325 2D/3D Accelerator

While installing the drivers I received the following message:

I tried repetedly by uninstalling the video card and related softare. On bootup the machine recognised the card as a SiS 315 and installed drivers for it. I also tried installing the latest drivers from nDivia. Still SiSoftware Sandra saw it as a SiS 315. I installed the software that came with the card. It displayed as a GeForce 2 MX 400 BUT and SiSoftware recognized it as a GeForce 2 MX 400 BUT.... on examination of the drivers the majority of drivers were for a SiS processor with alterations to the registry to make it look like a GeForce card.

I live in Brazil where products are often sold with misrepresentation (read that falsification). This is a SiS processor remarked as a GeForce.
I took it back to the dealer who in turn gave me a REAL XFX GeForce 4 MX440.

The income of people here, even with high levels of experience and education is extremely low. That macthed with the limited import and high prices of current computer product technoloys makes it extremely difficult to get or afford the latest technology and opens the doors for corrupt people to make and sell junk products here.
