Hi all,

I've got a report that sum hours of labor. It groups by department with sub-total hours for each dept. What I'm trying to do is a summary of all departments at the bottom of the report. The report looks something like this:

Assembly (grouping - group header)
kk1 31paint .35
kk1 31paint .72
tm1 33oa assem 1.25
sub-total 2.32 (group footer)

Electrical
mk1 52layout 2.50
bh1 52layout 1.66
sub-total 4.16

Machining
lw1 69mill .75
dm1 79cnc 1.50
sub-total 2.25

and so on through all of the departments.

What I'd like to have as a summary is:

Assembly 2.32
Electrical 4.16
Machining 2.25

How can I pull the data at the end of each group? I've tried putting a sub-report at the bottom of the report, passing the sub-total data, but I only get the last group's data.

I'd rather not have just a hide with drill-down of the groups as the report would most likely be expanded most of the time and those that have requested the report would like to see both the details and the condensed summary at the same time.

Thanks,
Dan

Looks like a Crosstab - you find Crosstab on the Insert menu, and it guides you through the details.

It helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry - I'm using CR v9.

I'm not really looking to do a cross tab on this.
I'd just like extract the group sub-totals and have them displayed together elsewhere on the report.

Why NOT use a crosstab? It is best suited for your purpose. Insert the crosstab in the report footer, and use your group field as your row, and add the hours field as your summary field. If you don't like the grid, you can remove it by going to the customize style tab->format grid lines.

LB - I stand very much corrected! Yes cross-tab is the way to go. Got it working very well. Thanks!

And big appologies to Madawc!

I didn't realize that the cross tab would suppress the details of the rows so that it would only show the sub-totals.

Thanks again!
