Hi All

Can anyone help me in resolving this issue

I have installed CRN on a demo machine, with both the Frameworkmanager and cognos configuration on the same box
when opening a project to publish i get this error

UNABLE TO ACCESS SERVICE AT URL
b-location = xts.run&m = portal

i checked the webservice extensions on the webserver they are pointing to the cognos.cgi file and also checked the namespace and path on the cognos configuration security page they are in their default setting

can anyone help me as to what i might be missing to see

thanks

Sasha,

Check the CRN_ROOT environmental variable is pointing to FM directory.

I am not sure whether this is causing the problem.Anyway please try and let me know if it works.

Regards,
Siva

Few things needs to be checked for this.

1. Please make sure that Cognos ReportNet Service is up and running without any error. You can confirm this by accessing the Cognos connection from the IE browser. You should be able to see the Welcome Cognos connection screen.

2. I am assuming that except for Content manager you have installed all other components in one demo server. Please have the fully qualified server name instead of localhost in the Environment section of Cognos configuration. Save the configuration and try again.

Try this and post again if it didn't help. I need more details about your architecture like what is installed where kind of details.

Not sure if this is relevant , but when creating the web-alias , the documentation is using crn , not Cognos
so address is crn/cgi-bin....
not cognos/cgi-bin....

So if you defined your web alias to be cognos ,make sure that you have changed it also in Configuration Manager , as by default it s coming with crn/cgi-bin

hi all

i tried all your suggestions, i have the crn up and running
i can see the cognos connection splash screen, but when i start the frameworkmanager when i make a model and publish it gives a gateway error
computer configuration is as follows
AMD Athalon 2900
512 Mb RAM
80GB HDISK
WINDOWS SERVER 2003
ORACLE 8I

pls help

I cant tell what your problem is but have you looked at
ReportNet Troubleshooting documentation which tells to check the gateway uri configuration to point to the machine crn is installed. Do you have some other application server installed in the machine to direct the incoming web requests? Documentation have instruction for that too.

Cheers

Hi

I checked the crnlogs file to know what my problem is
"the connection to content manager election failed"
keeps coming up everytime i start the reportnet from cognos configuration
I made sure the username to connect to the content store has dbo priveliges, i made a database with utf8 parameter setting
still i get the same error
content manager election failed...?

all help is greatly appreciated

thanks

This error comes up with content store is not created properly with all the tables. Check the number of tables created in your content store database.

The best way to determine the exact error message is to stop the ReportNet and then start the ReportNet service from the configuration manager after deleting the old crnserver.log

As per your above message am assuming that you have single server install with content store on a different database server.

the database server and the crn server are the same
this is a demo box
when crn is started how many tables are created in the content store
do they have any identification to show they are created by CRN

thanks a lot

I am assuming that you use SQL Server as your Content store. Log into the SQL server and open up the database and look for the below tables and the count.

ReportNet creates numerous table in the Database mentioned in the content manager.

1. There will be 45 tables created with the table name starting with CM.
2. 48 tables with the name starting with NC
3. 11 tables with the name starting with R
4. 5 views with the name starting with V

The database you specied will contain only tables created by CRN apart from the default tables. It is advicable to have tables created only by CRN and no other tables.

thanks guys it worked, the gateway probs are resolved and so are the content manager election error resolved

however when i open the framework manager and import metadata, and go thru the steps to add a database, within the first 2 screens it gives an error with the a prompt to choose whether to let the script running or not

if u can help it will be great

Please post here the problem and resolution to help others who have the similar problem.

I also have similar problem but this happens only on few machines. Please let me know if you find any solution for this issue.

What version and release are y'all on? I had that error early in the year, and I'm trying to find what I did to get rid of it or if it was a bug.
