An IP Office was just installed at a house and we are having issues with a gate phone not opening. I did not install the IPO but was brought in to troubleshoot. The gat ephone is an existing Linear access control for a gate. Before we arrived, the gate phone had a pots line connected and would call the IPO. A user needs to press a 9 to open the gate. The gate does not seem to recognize the touch tone. We added the gate phone as an analog extension to the IPO and configure extension as an auto ring down. When gate phone call button pressed, it calls a hunt group and when a person answers they press 9 to open gate. We have the same issue. when you press 9 once the gate doesn't recognize touch tones. If you keep pressing the 9, sometimes the gate will open. This was not an issue with the old Merlin Legend that was install previously. Any ideas. The tech that works on Linear Access Controls stated he runs into this issue with new phone systems a lot.

The voltage is much lower on newer systems, may be the issue, nothing you can do IPO side to change it though, perhaps a booster is available? :)

It may be that the duration of the DTMF from the KSU is too short.

Try answering the Gate Phone call from a Standard Analog Single Line telephone.

Press and hold 9 on the dial and listen if it has a continuous tone or not.

If it does and the gate Opens, then tone duration is your trouble.

It's a long time since I've been involved in the detail of analogue lines but aren't these meant to be a standard 48 volts? This should allow for a drop often over several miles from the exchange which is isn't the issue in your case.

I fixed that issue by using an ATA and going VoIP for the extension. The door phone is analog, wired to the ATA's FXO port which has a 3rd party EP license. I have retrofitted VOIP systems with analog door boxes. Works every time. I use the Linksys SPA3000.
