Garbled text from op11 rs232

EQUIPMENT: OP11 with old software.
EVENTS: Working normally, lightnig storm, happiness ended. all cards disabled (red leds)
When trying to connect tru the RS232 (I use it all the time) it responds with garbled text, I know the CPU is working because when I enter commands in the middle of the text I can recognize valid responses (SLPDEL, OVL000,ETC) I've tryed every terminal config I know (8,n,1 tru 7,m,2 and everything in between , baud speeds too) to no avail. I entered commands by memory trying to enable the card with no success either. what can I do to access the interface? it seems to be the only tty available.

You haven't said what type of Option 11 system. If it's the older Option 11 or 11e, then I recall that TTY ports 1 and 2 were located in slot 1 or 2 on the main cabinet and you might be able to trace the TTY cables. When problems occur, they tend to default back to 1200 baud. You could see if you can log in with either of those ports.

I recall that it was always tricky getting a modem to work on them except for port "0" which had different pin outs.
You could change the baud rate by flicking the dip switches on the SCORE, CPU or SSC processor card.

I've seen garbled text before, but it was a long time ago. If however, you have an Option 11c, then one trick that works is to reboot the system and do a "Ctrl" "I" when it tells you to get to the boot up menu. From there select "3" Utilities and then "1" for a backup and I think "1" again to select the backup location on the actual CPU card as that should have the last good backup from the previous night. Press "Y" to have it loaded in and quit the menu to let it boot up.

This hase got me out of trouble a few times when I've been to a system that I don't have a backup from.

Are you using an actual modem? I remember having to have one of those modem emulators to talk with a pc comm port. If you don't have one, you can make your own like this ->

Thanks for the insight.
I think its an 11c probably v24 or v25. I'm connected dirctly to the serial port ,no modem, I did tryed changing the dip switches and changed the other parameters. below the male rs232 is another female db9 ¿is it another TTY?
Also I have restarted it several times to no avail.

You will need a modem eliminator and connect to port 0 on the octopus cable.

The 9 way RS232 port below the TTY outlet isn't used for serial port access as I think it was for the analogue line power fail relay.

Have you tried another computer to access it with in case that is the problem. As your Option 11 is the later "c" version at V24.xx, then do try TTY ports 1 and 2, but they may be at different BAUD rates and you might find that TTY 2 is the CDR port.

Another trick is to press and hold the "Ctrl" key & "p d t" to go into there to see if you are able to type and view data OK. However, we won't give out any passwords on this forum and the default one might have been changed.
