G700 lost connectivity with hub site and registered to
S8300 which is now in LSP mode. We need g700 register back to hub site, i understand we just need to reset LSP.

My question is,

1. Do we need to reset G700 or s8300? from where we issue
reset command......from g700 or s8300 ?

pls give me reset command also..i will appreciate.

login in to the remote S8300 LSP, and issue a "reset system 4", that will cause the G700 to go looking for service again.

If you have a MG recovery rule set, you should be able to automate this.

You can also log into the the S8300 IP address via the web. Go to the maintenance page and in the left column select "Shutdown Server"

We have approximately 40 Avaya LSP's and have had some people on the wrong systems do a "reset system 4" and take down the wrong system.

By making people log into the systems via web it forces them to either used a save "favorite" with the name or make them double check the IP address of the system they need to log in to.

We have been told by Avaya not to do the reset system 4 to register the LSP's any more. Below is the info we got from Avaya.

Methods
Choose one the following methods. Either will work, but Method 1 is probably quicker and easier.

1. From the LSP
Login to the LSP server.
Get to the Linux BASH prompt (e.g. go shell)
Run the command stop –acf
Wait for about a minute or two.
Check in Communication Manager on the MAIN server to see if the gateways have registered
When all the gateways have registered, on the LSP run the command start -ac
Logout of the LSP

2. From Each of the Media Gateways
Telnet to one of the Media Gateways
Login to the Media Gateway
Run the command: reset mgp
Logout of the Media Gateway
(repeat for each Media Gateway)
Check in Communication Manager on the MAIN server to confirm the gateways have re-registered.

Not Effective Methods

1. Performing a Reset System 4 on the LSP
This is not very effective because the media gateways might miss that the LSP was reset. In other words, the Media Gateways sends a heartbeat to the LSP every few seconds. The reset is pretty quick. Often the Media Gateway's heartbeats arrive at the LSP before and after the reset. Since they did not sense the reset, the Media Gateways stay registered to the LSP.

reset system 4 has never failed for me. Also make sure when use the same port to connect to the LSP as you would via ASA, ie 5023.

The above suggestions will work however if you are on a newer release you can set up the Media Gateway recovery rules to auto restore.
