I have a handful of spare G450 GW's from retired offices and want to replace my G650's with these. I've calculated how many MM's and DSP daughterboards I would need to beef these up, but one thing I didn't understand is the RAM. Do I also need to upgrade that? I'm pretty sure these were purchased with the default memory.

You should be fine. Just be careful about one thing - check what firmware they're running.

There was a defective firmware that could cause the gateway not to boot or not upgrade or maybe brick it if you had 128MB RAM. gateways with 256MB didn't have the issue - there was one withdrawn firmware revision about that a few years back. Just check your firmware revision on the support site, but you should be fine.

You will need 512 MB of RAM to support announcements on the G450.

I don't get that extra info from your screenshot, but does what I have default on the 2nd entry have enough to handle what's on the VAL board w/o adding memory? I don't anticipate additional announcements being added. The other question is if I have 4 G450's (no 8300's) that will replace the G650's and this 1 VAL board do I get the cumulative amount of announcement storage amongst the G450's? Trying to not have to add RAM if necessary.

Default mem gives you 2848 seconds. The expanded memory plus SD gives you 14400 seconds. You get announcements either way, it just depends on how much time/space you need.

You can also do the following to get the data for Announcement space on the gateways try a "list integrated-annc-boards " instead of display and you will get a list of announcements with time remaining etc , but this will also show you any that are 0 in size that can be binned off , the missing information between Kevin`s output and yours is probably down to Firmware , as my 6.3 system gives different out put again , and some fields on that display is only for TN circuit packs.

If you issue the command on the gateway "show announcement files" you will be given at the very bottom a read out of the compact flash memory used and spare by announcements , "show system" will tell you what you have in RAM and in compact Flash , so if you get the capacity for your used space in the TN2501 val pack , you will be able to work out.
Also read this , but as a min G450 provide 45min announcement and the TN2501 60 min , so even with one gateway you are not far off and that can be upgraded to 240 min

So armed with that you can do the math and work out your requirement and look at load balancing as well.
