I had only 1 connection from port 10/5 to my network switch connected. Everything was up and I then entered 'set spantree disable' and I then lost my connection and it would not come back. Is there a specific order/sequence ot disable this, in order to user port redundancy?

I don't think so. Is it possible that because the data switch you connected to saw BPDUs initially from the G450s MAC and then saw STP get disabled that it might have locked you out?

I double checked and re-did the port redundancy commands and then disabled spantree and the same thing happened. Lost connection to the GW.. pings stopped replying and I had to reboot the unit since I didn't copy/run/start it. Do the ports have to be hard coded on the GW? We left them at default and the network switch is auto/auto. Once port redundancy is enabled, how would spanning tree even be in play?

Not sure if this helps, but this is how the cisco ports are setup --

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/24
description Avaya IP PBX
switchport access vlan 4
switchport mode access
no logging event power-inline-status
trust device cisco-phone
auto qos voip cisco-phone
macro description cisco-phone
spanning-tree portfast
spanning-tree bpduguard disable
service-policy input AutoQos-4.0-CiscoPhone-Input-Policy
service-policy output AutoQos-4.0-Output-Policy
end

Sounds funky. Why would you necessarily want STP disabled if you were going to be using both ports though? Maybe it's some self protection mechanism in the gateway to avoid loops?

By default I always disable STP and enable port redundancy. Since the G450 normally is not used as a router there is no reason for STP to be enabled and the network should have BPDU Guard enabled.

In addition to setting up the port redundancy you need to enable it. Once enabled you should be able to show port redundancy and see it setup and enabled on the two ports. When you get to this point you can connect the second ethernet connection to the data network. When connected the gateway will show one port active and one disabled.

Also since you are using auto-qos you may want to look at your network regions and modify the UDP port settings to match the Cisco Auto-QoS RTP ports. You will also need to modify the QoS and add the Avaya Media Gateway signalling port. Also you may want to set dscp trust.

>By default I always disable STP

Indeed, the default priority on the G450 is lower than the default priority on a cisco switch, so plugging them in can cause a Spanning tree root bridge election...

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I did the set port redundancy / set port redun enable / set port redun-inter commands.. As soon as spt is disabled I go dead. I'm not physically at site to be consoled in, so to get the GW back I have to have it power cycled. I hear what you're saying about the qos modifications, but this is the first site where disabling SPT caused this behavior. For now I left it enabled until I find the actual reason.

When the spanning tree is disabled, what is the status of the switchports?

They were not err-disabled.. they remained up/up connected.

What about spanning tree blocked?

We had a similar issue but we had both ports 5 and 6 connected
is it necessary to run the "set port redundancy enable" command after setting "set port redundancy 10/5 10/6 on 1"?
