G4 Monitor 630mHz only on startup

Have a G4 OS 9 - on startup the only display option is the default 630 mHz (default large icons etc)- if I re boot several times eventually it gives the full range of options and starts with my preference 1200.

I have tried trashing the monitor preferences - this sometimes works

How it starts up is unprdictable

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Whats the condition of your CMOS battery? Maybe try replacing it.
