G350 Console Cable Confusion 2

We have a G350 we need to stick a laptop and console cable too at some remote locations for a one-time IP migration project, however, I'm having a hard time isolating a single cable that works.

We have a (boatload) of those baby-blue Cisco cables, that even CDW refers to as a rollover cable (is this true, will it work on the G350?)

I can't find a place to buy and overnight an appropriate cable, since we sort of need this before next week!

No. A cisco console cable will not work. You need a roll over cable and custom DB9 to 8P8C connector.

It has to be custom? It can't just be a DB9-RJ45 connector?

I know the cable itself should go 12345678 - 87654321, but an off the shelf RJ45 DB9 connector won't work?

Nope. An off the self DB9 to 8P8C won't work. The pin outs are different.

plah? Okay this only served to further confuse me, I was told by a tech at my corporate offices:

8--1 <--and then plug this side into a regular DB9 RJ45-to-DB9 adapter
7--2
6--3
5--4
4--5
3--6
2--7
1--8

Then what the hell, I cannot find or make cables that will work with this, because I do not have raw parts to make a custom RJ45-to-DB9 converter

Instead of modifying the RJ45 to DB9 connector, can't you just take one of those Cisco cables, cut off the attached RJ45 and add another one upside down? That way you'll have the pins reversed if I'm nog mistaken???

Just my 2 cents. . .

Edwin, I'm not making a custom RJ45 to DB9 connector...

I made a custom CAT5 cable that rolls over, and its currently plugged into an off-the-shelf RJ-45 to DB9 connector. One of our team members is off to test it for me this morning

Here is what I have that works...

The cable itself is a flat, 8 conductor cord (not a cat 5 patch cord) that is "rolled", i.e. pin 1 at one end to pin 8 at the other end, etc...

The RJ45 to DB9 adapter is pinned out as follows:
RJ45 DB9
1......7
2......8
3......1
4......5
5......4
6......2
7......3
8 n/c

LOL...okay...this is goofy, I got it working, however, it took a really close inspection of the serial shroud to realize it was numbered in reverse of what was true.

I was wondering why all the pictures had pin 1 on the 5-dot side of the female DB9...


Also wmainc, that pinout IS correct, thank you very much for posting it. Someone stick this someplace conspicuous, even the Avaya techs I talked to didn't know the pinout for the RJ45-to-DB9-F. Star for you sir!

I wrote this DIY guide in response to this thread. It includes the DB9 part number that you would need to purchase. Thanks wmainc for the pinouts.
