G3 V4 replacement or upgrade

We have a G3 V4 that is currently running around 375 analog sets and 20 dig sets in a condo environment. One console,no VM, no call acct. About 30 GS trunks all on copper. Pretty simple setup.
Our contract with local DT provider is about up and mgmt. wants to either upgrade sys or look at possibilities of taking out this reliable old girl and replacing with something more up to date.
Just looking for some alternatives at this time. One of the major issues is the use of almost 400 analog sets throughout all the units. If we do go VOIP is that feasible to use an ATA type device on all the analog sets. Only about 20 hybrid and dig. sets plus 302D console. Don't know what the conversion to T-1 trunks would involve. Know the provider costs should go way down.
Personally I'd hate to see this old girl go. Maybe a crash kit to give them some piece of mind? (one cab. 4 carriers) Any and all input appreciated.

MCC cabinet or SCC? It may be possible to change a couple of packs, upgrade and reuse your current hardware
including the sets.

The Cab. is a MCC. Assuming that means multi carrier.

What is the reason they want to upgrade or replace? Are they looking at new features. If you go IP, you will have to replace all the sets.
You could easy find refurb parts. The MCC would be the only real problem, it is End of Life, end of support.

I thing they are just getting a bit nervous about the age of the equipment. That and someone put a bug in the ear of the mgr. about going IP saving them a whole bunch of money. Considering we have all those analog sets that would need to be converted from dig back to analog looks like the cost would be quite high. (We only have DSL service in about 30% of the locations (provided by us with onsite DSLAMS) so IP sets at all locations would be out of the question.

The only "cost savings" from "going IP" would be the trunks coming in to the system. I'm not quite sure how having to buy all new equipment to have an IP-based system would be saving money. Where are you located?

Most of the Avaya MCC / SCC legacy hardware is bullet proof and has lasted for years. Replacements and updated
hardware is plentiful and cheap. You could upgrade by changing a couple of circuit packs as well as changing your trunk provider from copper 2-wire to ds1.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like we can save money on trunks and a bit of equipment versus a whole bunch of money for equipment we really don't need. I can also get spare power supply. That's what went out a few months back and we went down for over a day. That's what really got them thinking about upgrade.
What type cards/hardware do I need to add to present config. to get me ready to convert to T1 trunks? Is that a standard T1 circuit the switch takes? We have no DIDs and no caller ID? Sorry about all the questions but I come from an electronic key background and this PBX is a bit overwhelming for me.

Yeah, the only cost savings you would really see if you wanted to go "IP" is if you changed to SIP trunks, then converted them to a PRI with an AudioCodes SIP->PRI gateway. If you want to get up to date and get your system under a maintenance contract you could switch to G650's and reuse your existing circuit packs, but like what others in the thread said you have an old but pretty rock solid system.

Want to add a PRI/T1 to this system? Just get the card, don't quote me but you should be able to purchase a TN464HP and pop it in, configure it and convert to a PRI.

Your V4 will do PRI...but you need to check "disp sys cust" and see if isdn-pri is set to "y" first...that is a must...
After that you will need a processor interface board and ds1 circuit pack or packs dependiing on how many T1's your going to install...some programming and your on your way to saving some money over your existing trunking and having caller-id for display sets...
I would look into a "crash kit" for your system i.e: power supply etc; but other than that..like tier3 said..they are pretty bullet proof and will last you a long time with care...

Good Luck
