After an extended power outage our old Definity G1 is failing to read the tape and goes into SPE down mode. Our second tape was recently lost when remodeling offices so we have only our offsite tape to boot from with translation from two years ago. We have done major changes in last year which are now lost. Is there any way of recovering translation from failed tape or could we switch tapes at a point after it starts from older offsite tape so that it would pick up the current translation?

Hi
May be it will not help you but may be the read/write heads of tape-drive is dirty and need to be cleaned.
Try to clean the heads by paper with C2H5OH.

We actually put in a new tape drive, but it still fails the tape with the current translations. It does read the older backup tape....
