hello,

my whole holiday weekend was a waise. My wife got me a new system:
2.6 p4 800fsb
1g ddr3200 400 512(x2)
lite on dvd 16x
lite on dvd\cd 4x burner
winme os
80g hd
asus p4p800 mobo\with no video onboard
geforcefx 5600 tv and dvi out 256mg video card

I have been trying to install the vid drv'ers all weekend. updated os, and bios. Tried both dvr sets (came with card and nvidia.com update). But everytime i go to install the drv'ers the system halts due to krnl386.exe error.

Ive done it on a clean install everytime. reformating now for next idea.

Can someone please help ive been like a kid with a new toy and no batterys to play it.

thanks for your time

god bless

First advice. Lose windows ME and get either 2000 pro or xp. I'm assuming that will fix your errors. Also get the new 53.03 drivers from . Next make sure your chipset and agp drivers are installed. This should fix your problems. Hint: Most new drivers are built for 2000/XP. Try and find Windows ME drivers. And please save yourself the grief and ditch ME.

Actually you will have to back down to 45.23 drivers
for 95/98/ME support .
And that would be a shame as the 50.xx series is made specially for the FX family.

So installing 5X.XX drivers will be a big no go
as all drivers later than 45.23 and up is for 2000/XP .

45.23 For 98/ME

still no help, going to go fork out the dough for xp i guess. I really hope this will do the trick.

Yeah ME really sucks. Make sure you get the proffesional version. And buy online. Also if you can get a good deal 2000 is good also.

Bad idea anyway to have 98/me on that fine P4 system
98/me .

Note: You need to disable Hyper-Threading technology via BIOS switch with any other legacy OS, including:
• Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, NT 4.0, Windows 2000 (all versions)

i have hyperthreading is disabled, I been to so many forums and web searches, yet i have not found anyone with this problem as stated during reboot sequence: {System Halt Error in krnl386.exe}

ive tried every bios setting under all 4 different bios updates, have all ms updates, no onboard video P4P800 asus, directx 8 and 9 and 9b. reformatted so many times that i think the disk are falling apart lol, just totaly lost.

only
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Home
Linux Kernel 2.4x
supports this.

Be sure i feel your frustration .

There is one thing in your bios setup that MUST be checked out.
Answer me the following from BIOS settings.

Is ACPI enabled ?
Is APIC mode enabled ?
MPS version enebled ? if yes witch version ?

ok install xp upgrade now,
acpi disabled
apic disabled
mps using 1.4 now for xp, was 1.1 for winme
agp/pci
256 apature
usbs disabled
serial disabled
paralle disabled
all others are auto

So maybe you are sleeping he.

Anyway:
I think your problems is related to this.

If you are running Windows98/ME
Prior to installing the os
(Power menu)
ACPI = Enabled
(Power menu)
APIC = Enabled ( Gives irq sharing)
(Chipset menu)
MPS = 1.1 ( Irg 1-15)
(PCI PnP menu)
Plug and Play OS = Yes

If you are running Windows XP
Prior to installing the os
(Power menu)
ACPI = Enabled
(Power menu)
APIC = Enabled ( Gives irq sharing)
(Chipset menu)
MPS = 1.4 ( Irg 1-24)
(PCI PnP menu)
Plug and Play OS = Yes

You shold enable irq steering/sharing .
That might be the trouble before.
No free resource.

You also get shutdown problems with out ACPI /APIC.
Enable it now.
Xp needs reinstall if you want to change this later,
cause of the HAL.

Thank you so much for your help SYAR2003, and TheGoatMan
I am up and running in circles lol. and in color to i might add. I do believe that this tread will be very useful to others as they uprade too. so i will mark this as very useful.

again thanks

Nice!

Thanx to you to .Congratulations .
Be sure to use the 53.03 drivers though.
(The 52.16 has alot of unsolved faults in them)

Cheers
