Hi All,

A non-techical question.

How will be the future of livelink in next 5-10 yrs. Is the Livelink increasing its market share?

I am a Livelink Administrator with 2 years of experience, not sure weather to stick to livelink and increase my competence or switch to some other general technology. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

OpenText Content Server is usually in the top list from Analysts etc so I expect it to be a great product going forward. At the very least there will be plenty of work maintaining existing systems as many firms won't migrate to a replacement over night if there was one.

I echo Greg's comments as well as some more .Your career success depends on what you are prepared to take on as challenges. There will be a glut of seemingly "knowledgeable consultants" as is the case with every niche software but only people who are willing to put the extra mile will succeed.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Thank you ggriffit and appnair.
I am in the initial stage of my career so wanted to know if livelink is a nice tool to move forward as I heard ECM would be replaced by cloud computing in near future

Hi guys,
Interesting thread. I worked as a Livelink functional consultant in the UK and Netherlands, but noticed that Enterprises are moving towards SharePoint. The demand of Livelink work seems to be decreasing (in UK and Netherlands). Can you please specify how the situation is in your area?

Well in the US many companies that used to Front End livelink are using Sharepoint as the UI .But when I was in consultancy most of the work I did was to integrate Sharepoint with livelink, archive server or with SAP,livelink and archive server. So while I know that MS is a force to reckon with they will not at least in the immediate future put enough development into making SP scalable. They still rely on established vendors like OT,EMC,IBM et al to showcase the SP UI.SP lacks very much in extremely large environments without help architecturally from established players.
Reality is the years of listening to customers has made the premium document management vendors much nicer software.SP has only been out there for some years(I am not looking for arguments,I very well know what SP came up with in its infancy as I was one of the few in pilot programs) .SP will in my opinion at some point be an equal force in the realm of premium DMS providers without the help of infinite SP ecosystems providers but unix, vms and macs have all survived windows and that too for a reason don't you agree?

@appnair: So your statement is that there is work in integrating the various systems? Or is this over and done with?

Similar market in the UK as AppNair mentions in the US for OT, although with a wide product set - including RedDot, Vignette, ProVision, BPO etc - as well as ECM they are well placed to suceed where the smaller niche vendors begin to struggle.

Integration work is still ongoing in many firms and will continue to as each upgrade to either the source or destination system may require work too.

Livelink is certainly still getting new business in some areas e.g. Pharma and Security where SP etc are not certified / compliant enough, and in areas where full ECM rather than jsut simplistic DM is required.

Do you guys mean sharepoint will take over Livelink in near future?
