I have heard from a few sources that due to a possible new 911 mandate that Mitel is not going to update the hotel/motel software to take care of this issue for older software and possibly even future ones.

I would like to know for a fact from anyone in the forum that represents mitel if this is true.

Also, since there is some vagueness about this 911 issue, again if anyone knows for a fact or has a link to reliable info, could someone tell me what's really going on?

Thanks

Ken

Ken,

What are the new 911 requirements and is it specific to the Hospitality market?

Thanks

Parts of what I've heard the ML/el already does in that it alerts the front desk (on the console) to a 911 call being made and what room dialed it.
I don't have the details but it seems that there is supposed to be more done to alert the staff??
Plus as I heard, when a guest dials 911 if all the C.O. lines are taken the pbx is supposed to drop one of the callers and complete the 911 call.

Like I said, I've gotten pieces of info but no solid details.

If you are talking about ML/EL this refers to the Mitel SX-200. The SX-200 ML/EL is long discontinued and no further changes to its software will be completed. The ML/EL/ELx has been discontinued for almost ten+ years. It was replaced by the SX-200 ICP. The SX-200 ICP supports analog, digital and IP phones. The SX-200 ICP does support notification of emergency numbers being dialed. From the console, it indicates the number dialed (911, 999, ANY other emergency number you identify in programming), the extension name and number that dialed the emergency call, as well as the time and date. The system has always supported this feature. I'm not aware of any Mitel system ever looking for busy trunks and dropping a call to make an emergency call. I'm aware other systems from other manufactures are able to do this - however I've never seen any Mitel system drop a call from a busy trunk group to facilitate an emergency call.

Going forward a Mitel Communications Director (MCD) is the ideal replacement for the SX-200 and SX-200 ICP. The MCD system supports console-based notification of emergency numbers being dialed, plus e-mail notification (with the same details as the console), and also emergency notification to one (or more) IP phones (i.e. the same information present to the console is also presented to phones programmed to receive emergency dialed information). In addition SNMP is supported for emergency calls as well. You can also play a funny ring on a ONS device (analog phone/cordless phone) if an emergency number is dialed on the property, however since it's analog, there is no data on the screen to understand where or why the emergency call was placed - thus you would need to go to a console or Mitel IP phone with a display.

Hope that helps!

You don't have to be with Mitel to answer this. I would think that any changes required to a PBX to deal with new 911 requirements would be added to any current software load supported. Even if the product ( 5000, 3300 etc ) is still manufactured it will not be included in older releases ( release 7, 8, 9 and soon MCD 4 ). Any software for products that are manufactured discontinued will not get any changes. Kind of like asking Microsoft to make changes to Windows 95. So if a 911 gets introduced then Mitel would need to comply if they want to be able to continue to sell in a particular country.

@Loopylou you mean to say Microsoft are not still doing updates for Win95?? .....Well i think its time I upgraded to XP then [glasses]

Think the source code for DOS is free now. Maybe that?
