Hello,

I'm in charge of an oracle9i-db-server (which has been running since 3 months). The archiver was able to store approx. 240 files. Taking a quick glance at the v$loghistory ... I get to know, that all files are depicted. I strangely had to figure out, that the v$archived_log only refers to the last 41 files. If I'm not wrong, that's the only dd-view revealing all archived redolog-files incl. their absolute file references. But actually I'm need to qet them all depicted ...

Does anybody know the reason, why only some of the redolog-files are handled by v$archived_log?

Bye Sysadv

interesting - I have 9.0.1.0 and in v$archived_log there are 124 entries - duplex logging so thats 62 files.

however on disk I have 21 logs because they're deleted manually.

Are you using RMAN for backups ?

Hello Alex,

much thanks for your response. I'm going to check out the variable mentioned above. Regarding your question I'm need to say that we've actually planned to handle backups via rman, but we didn't. Everything is backed up online via a complex script ( The scripts grants the option to automate the process of deleting older redolog-files, that are not neccessary anymore. Perhaps it's interesting to you ...

Bytheway ... could explain to me, what duplex logging means? Thanks in advance Sysadv

Archive logs to 2 areas as per;

log_archive_dest = /u04/archivelogs/pkms/
log_archive_duplex_dest = /u03/archivelogs/pkms
log_archive_min_succeed_dest = 1

I posted a similar question to this recently and have not yet got an answer. I have controlfile_record_keep_time at the default of 7 and it does not seem to make any difference - all of the old archive logs are still listed. Do you have to do something in RMAN for that parameter to work ? We are not using RMAN.

Hello,

yesterday I took the time to check my spfile. I had to find out, that the variable control_file_record_keep_time has not been set. Is there any standard-value working in the background?

Bye Sysadv

The parameter is only listed in the RMAN Guide, therefore I would assume it is only in effect if you're using RMAN :)
