I have a user who keeps getting this message when trying to print to an HP 4200 network printer. She is the only one who is getting the message.

Function address 0x78010497 caused a protection fault.
Some or all property pages may not be displayed.

It then closes out the program. This happens for multiple programs but when I print out a test page it prints fine.

HELP!!!

I tried reinstalling the printer drivers but that didnt work. It seems to only be for this user. I even tried using a different computer and it still wont work. Everyone else connected to that printer can print.

I'm a little confused by what you are describing. Are you saying that you use roaming profiles and wherever this user logs in it fails? And other users on the SAME PC print ok? This would indicate a problem with the user's profile, not the drivers as other profiles are successful with that same loadout of the driver.

no i actually tried a different physical pc.

other users on their own workstations can print to it.

OK so you grabbed another PC and "tried" it. Tried it how? As Administrator? As the problem user? If so, how did the user account get put on that PC?

If you can log onto a PC as one user and print OK, then log on the same PC as another user and it won't print OK, it is a user profile issue and the printer drivers are fine. If no user on a given PC can print, then it is a driver issue.

well according to what you said it would be a driver issue. I tried a different pc and no users on that pc can print.
Would I have to reinstall the drivers on the server?

Shouldn't have to, since other users are utilizing that driver with no problems. Try deleting the driver from the local machine, then let the server reload it.
Delete the printer itself first, then either restart the spooler service or reboot the pc. Then from the Printers window goto File->Server Properties, select the Drivers tab, and delete the driver file.
XP and 2K have a nasty way of re-using an existing driver rather than reloading it from the server.

That didnt work Lawnboy. :(
I deleted the printer and then went to server properties and removed the driver. I then went to add printer and reinstalled the printer and it still gave the message.
I dont know what to do.

I had this same error appear just today. It happened after I had visited windows update and installed the latest driver for the HP 4200. I deleted the printer, driver, rebooted, reinstalled the printer and went back to the PCL 5e driver and all is working properly. There is a newer PCL 6 driver but this was the one that caused problems so I went back to the older driver and all is working okay again.

I came across this thread while searching for the exact same problem. I have a network of 30 users. One user cannot print to the network printer, all the rest can. It is a 4200 and connected to a server via IP and then shared among the users. There are also 4000's and 4050's in the mix as well.

The problem only manifests it self on the 4200. The odd thing is that if I load the 4200 driver on the computer in question and make a direct TCP/IP connection all is well and it works perfectly. It is only when this particular user connects to the network share that the problem exists.

Did anyone actually ever resolve this? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue, again with just a single user. The printers were deleted and her profile updated, then the drivers were removed from the PC via the 'Server Properties' applet (Win2K SP4).

Rebooted the PC and recreated the printers so the drivers were downloaded from the print server......no change. :(

Any more suggestions, anyone?
