I'm not sure whether the 10baseT ethernet port on my 2500 router is capable of full duplex. When I go into config int eth, it doesn't even give me fullduplex option. Can someone confirm this for me?

I know my T1 serial interface is capable of full duplex, I'm guessing my ethernet port is a definate bottle neck. Anyone have an idea how much performance I would gain by having full duplex fast ether port?

I'm looking to get most out of what I have, since I'm on a tight budget. I have a 2600 spare unit, will it be wise to pull out the T1 WIC out of my 2500 and use it in my 2600 and buy a fast ethernet module that will connect to my LAN?

Thank you all in advance.

You can set the interface on the 2600 to full duplex but are limited to 10 for speed. NM-1FE 1 port fast ethernet module should do the trick. Could also look at a 1720 as it comes with one fast ethernet port and a slot for your T1 card. Also what type of network gear are you using....fast ethernet port make no difference if patched into a 10base t hub....

Cisco ethernet port is connected to a Netscreen 5GT vpn/firewall, which can do 10/100 full duplex. Thanks for the info!

With the fast eth module on the cisco router, does anyone see an issue with having an outside switch infront of my Netscreen firewall? My firewall does have the capability to be configured with DMZ, but it would be nice to have an outside switch (2900xl) to possibly have a restricted guest lan/wifi network.

Well if you are going to put in a fast ethernet module why no just configure the old port for guest network...different subnet...disable rip...no ip route to production network....should work. Could also setup an access list on ethernet port to deny any access to production network while allowing all other access for added security.

Looks like buying a 1720 is a cheaper way to go than buying the fastethernet module for 2600. Thanks for the tip, once again!!

The flash for these are a little higher than the 2600 as it is a special cisco compact flash. You can also get a wic-1enet for cheap on ebay to add a second enet port.

Hi seong76

I am not sure, but I think that you can run at full duplex with the 2500 if you want. Try to update your ios to a 12.2 or latter one and see.

Cheers.
