Hi

We have taken the backup of local drives using veritas and
I would like to know How to do this full restore of the system?

My idea is to install the fresh OS and veritas client and then Restore the backup . can anyone tell me this will work or not?

Thanks in advance

Sarav

Hi,

Yes this is possible to resore whole system using VERITAS backup exec. If you have created IDR (intellegent Disaster Recovery Disk)

Go to and search for this tech note TechNote ID: 206800

Here is the info abt the disaster Recovery.

I can help u more.

Hi Aslamvs

We didn't create IDR .....actually this machine is cluster one and What we have is backup of local drives and external drives from node one and local drives from node 2.

Is it possible to restore everything (inlcuding cluster)?

Thanks for the response.

Hi Aslamvs

Thanks for the URLs.....

After reading these articles..

my doubts are

1.How to create IDR ?
(if I create IDR for one machine, Can I use it for some other machine)

2.Our boot media is SCSI(NCR box). So which installation option(express/custom) should I select?

3.How come IDR will be selected for recovery once I install fresh Win NT?---(Fig 6 and Fig10 of URLs)
(Do I need to insert IDR diskette?)

I really thank you for your valuable help....

Hi sarav,

here is the link for how to Create IDR. its easy to create and restore the data also.If you create IDr for a perticular machine u can use for another machin eif the Hardware specifications are purely identical to each other.

here u will get the information. If yor boot media is SCSI use express installation.
nad no need to intall winddows NT boot directly from IDR.If u r intsalling windows NT fresh then after installing NT create the partiotions and booy from IDR.

Thanks Aslamvs.....

I will create a IDR from the fresh installation of our machine and try to use this to restore the data from veritas.

We used Veritas Netbackup instead of veritas backup exec, is that ok?

Hi, Sarav,

I don think there will be problem with using "Veritas Netbackup". I don know much abt that i m using veritas backup exec 8.6 and i carried out the activity of restoration of whole system. And this worked for me

Go ahead with Veritas netbackup. It seems to work ok.

Hi

We have restored the full data without IDR.

But we have problem with starting the cluster service. The error is the expected signature was not found on the cluster disk. The signature was changed because we replaced a failed disk , but it not the Cluster Disk. Still all the signatures were changed.

Event ID is 1034 for Clussvc.

There is a Reskit dumcfg.exe is there for W2k to write a signature on disk. Is there anything like this for Windows NT?

When I followed KB article for Event ID 1034 Clussvc. It corrupted the Cluster DB.

Any Help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Sarav
