Hello everyone,

Hope someone can answer this question for me. Just upgraded to BE 9 and a new Spectra Logic Treefrog with 30 slots and 2 drive. I would like to do a full nightly backup to different slots each night. Can this be done without setting up 30 different schedule jobs and 30 different partations on the library?

Thank you,
Gary

No. If you want BE to backup to specific slots on specific days, there is no other way because with a loader it is random as to what tape it picks when multiple slots are available.

Hey, would you mind sharing with me additional details on what hardware you're using and how you have your Library attached? I've a Sony LIB-302/A3 (same unit) attached to a Compaq Proliant DL380 G2 and am having problems getting it going.

THX!

MiamiRob,

When you say your unit is attached to a Compaq, is it via SCSI or over LAN/Fiber? MY is over GIG LAN with Backup EXEC on a DEll workstation just running the backup software. I had to switch back to Backup EXEC 8.6. I had to install tape library support drivers from Backup EXEC, AIT device drivers from sonys site to get the unit working.

Hope this helps, if not let me know.

I'm going over SCSI. On boot I should be seeing:
SCSI ID:1 SONY SDX-700C
SCSI ID:3 SONY LIB-302

I'm only seeing the first half of that.

After talking to HP a few minutes ago, they've informed me that I need an additional SCSI controller (129803-B21, if anyone's interested). Turns out that the rear SCSI port on DL380s will only support a single tape drive, ergo the need for a secondary controller. That solves a bit of that mystery.

Veritas and SpectraLogic both tell me that BackupEXEC 9 should have no problems with my configuration, but to install the Sony Drivers for the AIT drive on the server.

What do you think of the library and its performance once operational?

Rob
