I have a fujitsu hard drive that worked fine on my computer
for about a year now , but yesterday it just stopped. It
still spins and the BIOS detects some sort of hard drive with a very long name,no letters just strange symbols.

when it's connected to the computer the computer pauses after it detects the IDE drives.this is the primary slave
and when i dissconnect this drive the computer runs fine.

I am running an Award Software BIOS,does anyone have an idea of what to do?

First thing I do is get the diagnostic from the maker's website and put it on a boot floppy and run it. Sounds as if the drive is failing/failed.

We are having the same problem you describe on many FUJITSU drives MPG3102AT manufactured mostly feb and march 2001.

as far as we know many manufacturers are having the same problem.

We have got a repair from FUJITSU for 9 units last june and are preparing a new shipment for 5 units with the same symptoms.

We tried to contact FUJITSU support in ENGLAND but did not get any answer.

We are interested in having other sources on this problem and to know if FUJITSU has made any reply to someone ???

i just applied the FJDT diagnostic ( downloadedfrom Fujitsu.com) to my MPG3102AT manufactured feb 2001. it ran, and detected the drive, but said it WASNT a fujitsu, and refused to do further diagnostic test...

i then applied the MPG3102AT firmware updater ( also downloaded from fujitsu.com) and it ran, with the promising message "we have just restored your fujitsu drive, but stil need to upgrade firmware - please power down and power up again, leaving the disk in the drive"

i tried that, but no luck, seems the firmware doesnt want to instal ( i tried several times)

the FJDT diagnostic still says "not a fujistu drive"

seems like this puppy is TOAST

( oh well)

fujitsu mpg3012at - has anyone bot another drive and swapped the board? with used and refurbed drives going for less than $100. this may be a less costly solution. sturg@sbcglobal.net

Fujitsu drives failing in numerous machines are apparantly due to a faulty batch of chips that have caused some major catastrophic failures. Swapping the pcb as some have suggested does not work and can kill the drive completely. The fujitsu utiliies does not help either. After some lengthy calls to Fujitsu they offered to replace my drive. The data well that was my problem they said.

Managed to find a solution from a company who have produced software that recovers the Fujitsu drive surprisingly. why Fujitsu can't come up with that i have no idea. If it helps they are at its the last time we have fujitsu drives installed. reg...
