Hello,

I am trying to setup an ftp site on a computer located within a network...that is setup as a workgroup computer on a peer to peer network. I have a switch that connects the computers together with a modem, which in turn, connects all computers to a DSL internet connection (bellsouth). I went through a tutorial and loaded all of the appropriate FTP (IIS) components. I then set it up unchecking Allow Anonymous Connections. I can connect to it using the IP address that is reported by my Connection or ipconfig. The problem is...I can connect to it from within the network but can't connect to it outside of the network. Do I need to be typing in my browser something other than the IP address when I am outside of the network. Please help!!

Thanks,
Roger

Are you using some sort of router at all or ICS ? You will need to forward port 21 to the machine hosting the FTP server.

Also your ISP might block all incoming connections on port 21 you will want to check if the block any connections or say you cant run any sort of server.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice...when you say forward to port 21...I would do this in the Properties section of the (IIS)FTP configuration? Under "Identification" I could set it to 22 instead of 21?

I am using a Netgear switch....

I cant remember if IIS ftp lets you change the port or not i have never really used IIS ftp. I always used a 3rd party FTP as it has more options and more secure.

You could try looking at

THere are many more out there.
