FTP Server Status

Does ayone know how to write a script which detects the status of an FTP server and then indicates on a web page whether the server is up or down.

Any help would be appreciated.

On a windows platform.

If the FTP server is installed as a service, you should be able to issue:

net start

as an external application. This will return a list of currently-running services. You can then look through the list to see if your FTP server shows up in the list.

I read the orginal question as he was asking for a script to attempt a login on a FTP server and then create a web page that indicates success or failure of that attempt.

I would assume that this script would be platform independant.

I'd like to see such a script.
