does anyone have any advice on a good ftp server to use for upgrading from 7.1 to 8.0. I know there are several free ones available, but maybe there is one that is very user friendly.

explain why you wanna use an third party ftp as opposed to the microsoft internal one?

I've used the microsoft ftp for 4 years and never really had any issues

I use the ArGoSoft FTP Server and I'm very pleased with it.

mitelpassion i really didn't know windows had it's own ftp server. thanks for mentioning this. I will do some research on it.

I would agree on just using the windows FTP server, but if you really want to use something else, I like FileZilla.

i guess you can use anything you want but windows has it's own. if you can't find it it's probably not installed. you'll have to install under the windows component IIS, FTP.

works well as anything for Mitel upgrades IMHO

ok, i have my windows ftp server installed. i went to properties on my ftp server and clicked on the security account tab. here i have my allow anonymous connections checked, and allow iis to control password checked. my user and passwod are both set to ftp. i also set my server address the same as my laptop address. when i try to connect through internet explorer (ftp:// my ip address)it asks for my username and password to server. when i put in username and password and logon, it doesn't let me in. my question is, should the user and password be ftp? Do I have the wrong boxes checked?

you need to login to the FTP server using a local user account. If one doesn't already exist on the machine, create one. I have one that I use just for running software installs/upgrades.

just install ftp - no need for any other config. by default account anonymous and password 'ftp' or 'anything' should work
