everytime i attempt to access an FTP site from a few certain machines I get the following error:

"Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permissions to access the folder.

Details:
The connection with the server was reset."

This only happens on a few machines, and I can get to it from many others. Have compared setting in IE and they all appear to be the same. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Which settings have you compared? The likely ones are in Interent Options, Advanced tab-- Enable FTP folder view & use Passive FTP should probably both be selected.

If that's not it, use FTP from the command line to get some info about what's going on.

Both settings are enabled in IE options. After trying from a the command prompt, the following error occurs:

"Connection closed by remote host"

Is this before any logon prompt? If so, it sounds like the machine is being denied by IP address before even having the opportunity to authenticate.

Usually, FTP is on port 25.

FTP is on port 21, with its data connection on port 20 (if not using PASV mode). Port 25 is SMTP (email).

Yes, it is before a logon prompt is ever received. Is there a way to find out if it is being denied an IP? Not very FTP saavy...

Port 21 is open on the firewall using passive mode.

If my guess is correct, it would be a server setting that the administrator of the FTP server would have to check. Is this a public (somewhere on the internet) FTP server? Are the working & non-working client machines on the same (private) network?

Still trying to obtain a POC for the server itself. As for the machines (working or not) are all on the same (private) network.
