Does anyone know specifically how to include ftp backup settings (ip address, login and password, directory, etc.)
in the 46xxsettings file?
As usual the documents are foggy and elusive.
We want to include this in the initial setup of the phones rather than have a manual procedure.
It works very well for retaining speed dials, custom labels, etc. when logging in to another phone.
The user can login and refresh settings and retain all info from the original phone-definitely a good thing.

You can include in 46xxsettings.txt file FTP server name and directory name only (FTPSRVR and FTPDIR parameters). There is no possibility to include FTP username and password there - 46xx phone will use FTP anonymous login by default. You can include username in specific backup file for particular extension (EXT_46XXdata.txt), but you can't include FTP password there :(

So I think the most suitable way is set up FTP server with anonymous read/write access and restrict access to it by IP addresses belonging to IP phones.

There is also MV_IPTel suite on support.avaya.com - it contains FTP server that can authorize anonymous FTP users via SNMP lookup to be sure they are IP phones.

Thanks kva-that's what I had ascertained from the documents.
Have you successfully executed this?If so,do you have an example of the settings file?
We have anonymous FTP running and can execute a manual from the phone, manipulate the file to make changes, etc.
When we include the FTP info in the settings file the phone ignores it.
We did erase the manual settings on the phone first.
Any ideas or info are much appreciated.
Thanks-Vic

I set up following settings in 46xxsettings.txt:

SET RESTORESTAT 1
SET FTPUSERSTAT 1
SET FTPSRVR x.x.x.x
SET FTPDIR 46xx

And allowed write access to 46xx directory at the root of FTP server for anonymous login.

With these settings the phone automatically fetches backup file at startup and saves it after any modification (speed dial, application parameters and so on).

Awesome kva-I'll give that a try after I clear the phone.

Yeah,so that worked perfectly.
We weren't using "SET" in the command sequence.
Am I correct in assuming that you have no way to set a username and password?
This could be a problem with the security crazed customers we have.

In 46xxsettings.txt - yes, there is no way (at least now). You can set FTP username in backup file for particular extension (EXT_46XXdata.txt, FTPUserName parameter). Also you can set FTP password in menu at particular extension and the phone will store it in it's memory.

By the way FTP is not secure protocol - username & password are sent in clear text and can be easily sniffed. So if you allow anonymous FTP access for particular IP addresses only it will be comparable level of security.

Exactly what I thought-Thanks a million.
Problem solved.
We actually got 1 customer to give us an anonymous already-
shouldn't be to much of a problem going forward.
