I have a Couple Solaris 8 Sparc Servers with FTP enable on OS.

I am trying to log all ftp traffic on one server like the other servers are doing. But for some reason it wont log on the new server correctly.

I have the following configurations setup on the new server as well.

/etc/syslog.conf - daemon.debug /var/adm/ftp_log

/etc/init.d/inetsvc - /usr/sbin/inetd -s -t &

Here is what i am trying to get logged on one of my servers.

Aug 30 09:00:32 server1 in.ftpd[17725]: [ID 373804 daemon.info] connection from ipaddress at Thu Aug 30 09
:00:32 2007

Aug 30 09:00:33 server1 in.ftpd[17725]: [ID 577562 daemon.debug] command: TYPE I^M
Aug 30 09:00:33 server1 in.ftpd[17725]: [ID 988435 daemon.debug] <--- 200

Aug 30 09:00:33 server1 in.ftpd[17725]: [ID 577562 daemon.debug] command: CWD /opt/WebSphere5/AppServer

But all i get logged is the following.

Aug 29 18:11:18 server2 inetd[25323]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] telnet[25335] from ipaddress 3774
Aug 29 18:11:33 server2 inetd[25323]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] ftp[25346] from ipaddress 2087
Aug 29 18:11:43 server2 inetd[25323]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] ftp[25347] from ipaddress 2091
Aug 29 18:12:05 server2 inetd[25323]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] telnet[25421] from ipaddress 4331
Aug 29 18:12:07 server2 inetd[25323]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] ftp[25430] from ipaddress 2099

You may need to add a -d switch to the in.ftpd line in /etc/inetd.conf to enable debug logging.

Annihilannic.

by doing the -d it diddnt add what i am seeing on my other servers.

My other servers have the identical files as does this server.

Did you pkill -HUP inetd or restart it to make it re-read the config?

Annihilannic.

not after adding the -d but i did after i added the -t.

I just tried it and it still didnt work.

Whats weird is these extra -d or -t is not in my other servers conf file and i get the info that i need.
