ftp hanging on AIX

hi all,
got a problem with AIX on RS/6000 that NOBODY can fix for me!! We have ftps coming into our system from a WINNT server. Occasionally the ftp job sticks open, so no jobs can get access to the file. The results of a trace show it is getting 'keep alive' signals from the sending machine.

this is what i can see...
ps -ef|grep ftp
futures 21928 8514 0 22:46:49 - 0:00 ftpd

ANY suggestions would be much appreciated!

you should be able to configure /etc/syslog.conf and run syslogd so you will get more clue from hanging ftp sessions in /var/msgs/*

it seems like you have a good and running ftp session - sorry no more help so far

thanks for the suggestion.... i have no messages in /var/msgs/* so am guessing that the ftp job isn't returning any errors.

I have some questions.

What is your oslevel?
Is the file on AIX in full, just the ftp job doesn't stop? Or is the file not fully there yet?
Does the ftp ever finish?

were running aix v4.3
the file on AIX is full but can't be used because it is held by the ftp job.
if I don't kill the ftp job then it will never end.

havent you recently installed a firewall or ACLs on new cisco?

you should check from NT's end if you can get directory listing and if that succeeds try to replay your automated ftp script

have not recently installed anything new.

Unfortunately don't have access to NT end, but apparently they can get directory listings etc no problem, and ftp does work most of the time. Just on odd occasions (once a week max) it packs up.

how do i register error messages as syslogd - as refered to in your post?

1) you edit /etc/syslog.conf at least to get daemon.info in some known file (or just uncomment default lines)
2) start syslog daemon using smitty syslogd
3) watch files in /var/msgs/
